Fashion News: Emma Watson lines up in front of the Fashion Pack

Hi everyone, as you may know I often post about personal style, food, and inspiration. However, this post is going to be a tad different, as I will talk about.. fashion news! Here, I'm going to focus on super chic celebrity....Emma Watson! I love her face, and unique style...she's such a classy lady.

Although she’s best known for her role as dowdy Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, Emma Watson is quite the fashionista. Of course, fashion is very divisive, and the outfit she chose to wear to the premiere of her new film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, has generated mixed responses.

Emma strode down the red carpet of her premier wearing a Dior mini-dress over a pair of tailored slacks. Reminiscent of the almost forgotten 90s favourite, the ‘skouser’, the outfit was unsurprisingly controversial, generatingendless discussions across blogs and newspapers.

On the positive side, Look Magazine said: “Never one to disappoint in the fashion stakes, the ever-stylish Emma Watson shows us how to wear one of the hottest trends this winter – dresses worn over trousers.” Popular fashion blog My Fashion Life also appreciated Emma’s look, saying: “It’s a bit of a sartorial risk, but that’s what we like to see from Young Hollywood on the red carpet”. Marie Claire also praised the star, headlining their article: “Emma Watson is ahead of the fashion pack at Perks of Wallflower screening”. 

While the fashion press have praised Emma’s risky outfit choice, mainstream news outlets see the outfit as something you would probably wear as Halloween fancy dress rather than a red carpet look.

The Metro ran with the headline “Emma Watson has rare fashion fail at Perks Of Being A Wallflower screening”, while The Express ran an article showcasing all of the young actress’ fashion hits and misses.

Tongue-in-cheek gossip blog, Holy Moly!, added their two cents, calling for Emma to “sack the stylist”, going on to add “this Dior dress is adorable on its own. Paired with a good shoe and edgier styling, this could have been an A*red carpet moment for Emma. Paired with pointy-toed stilettos and slacks, she looks like she’s raided the ‘parents’ evening’ section of your mum’s wardrobe.”

Emma has a background in fashion, having modelled for Burberry and won the Elle Style Icon award in 2011. So although many newspapers and blogs are calling her outfit choice a ‘fashion disaster’, it may just be the next big trend to sweep the UK – watch this space!
